Fall is in the air

Let's face it - the Lone Star State doesn't experience Fall like some parts of the country and we do not make the list for the Colors of Fall Driving Tours, but check out these pictures - all taken close to home.

Recipe

I'm finally posting the recipe I mentioned here.  I don't even have a name for these treats - feel free to name them!  Here are the ingredients:

Yep, just three ingredients - you love this recipe already right?

Place a single layer of the Snyder's Butter Snaps pretzels on a cookie sheet.  Place one Hershey's chocolate Kiss on top of each pretzel.  Unwrapping the Kisses is the hardest part - some time during that process pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees.  Place the cookie sheet in the pre-heated oven for 2 minutes.  Remove - note the Kisses will still be in original Kiss form and will not appear very melted.  Place one Reese's Pieces on top of each Kiss and gently press.  And that's it - a salty & sweet treat that everone will love!  Next time I make these I might use the mint M&M's instead of the Reese's pieces - yum!

Discovery

Over the past two weeks I have had two different friends tell me about a new shop in the Denton mall.  I had a chance to check out the shop - When Pigs Fly - on Tuesday.  Well, it's darling and full of wonderful treasures!  The owner takes consignment pieces so I asked for a card.  I have had quite a bit of inventory after our shows and I wasn't quite sure where it would find a home.  I was pretty certain my guest bedroom was no longer an option.  I've been tossing around the idea of renting a booth in a store...and comtemplating having a quarterly barn sale...and a variety of other options.  So, back to When Pigs Fly - I found something that needed to come home with me (shocking, I know) and while I was checking out I was learning more about the shop owner.  Can you even believe that we LIVE ON THE SAME STREET?!  Really, what are the odds?  And she was in need of some new items for her shop...and she came and bought almost everything I had...and she needs some great pieces made greater with a little paint and...well, I'm going to be one busy (but happy) girl!  How exciting is all of that?!

Our 2nd Show

Mom and I had our 2nd show this past weekend.  This one was a two-day show but it was much easier because they provided the tables.  That meant we didn't have to rent a truck - nice.

Our space was smaller so we set things up a little differently.  And we lucked out on the space again - we got two wall tables and were in a great spot.

I've learned that your pieces get a little beat up when you take them from place to place.  We don't have any other shows planned in the near future.  I'll keep you posted on where you can find us!

Party!

Mom and I hosted our 8th Annual LUX Candle Party on Thursday evening.  LUX candles are made right here in the Lone Star State and they are awesome!  There is a "Tour of Scents" throughout my home so  friends can walk thru and smell a selection of the candles.  We so enjoy baking some sweet treats and spending some sweet time with wonderful friends!

Mom's delicious white chocolate fudge

I'll post the oh-so-easy recipe for these later

Flower Market

There's just something about fresh flowers.  I love to see the assortments of fresh flowers in our local grocery store.  All the beautiful colors, great textures, and how the seasons are represented.  It's fun to select a few different ones to make an arrangement.  And there's nothing quite like having a fresh flower arrangement in your home to make the day feel pretty and special.

The most amazing fresh flower market I have ever visited is at Pike Place Market in Seattle.

Row upon row and layer upon layer of the most fantastic flowers!  I wish I could share photos from our trip but it was before we owned a digital camera.  I commented to Hubby that if we lived there, I would go to the Market and buy fresh flowers for our home every week!

I bought some fresh flowers yesterday and made an arrangement for a party being hosted at our home.

Those are pears in the bottom of the vase.

So the next time you are in the produce section, meander over to the fresh flowers and brighten your day!

New Issue is Out!

The Nov/Dec/Jan issue of Where Women Create is out!  If this publication is new to you check out my previous post here

I haven't made it past the Foreword yet.  Jo Packham, Creator & Editor-In-Chief poses the question - What would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?  Wow - what a question.  I would do so many things if I knew I would not fail.  I would build homes, I would open a store, I would be bold enough to charge for my decorating services, I would restore an old house, I would...    What would you do?

Jo Packham on instincts "...I just go where they whisper in my ear and I become the character on the pages that they have written and handed to me."

Is it true that creative women are better at following their instincts?  Are creative women risk takers or simply passionate enough to try?

Something Old - Something New

A couple of weeks ago on a Friday I left work for my lunch hour.  I had a couple of errands to run but I saw a sign that said:  ESTATE SALE.  That equates to DETOUR in my brain and I changed directions.  It was a great sale.  The house was packed and you got that "frenzy" feeling like you had to rush thru because someone was about to pick up what you want.  Fortunately I picked this treasure up before anyone else did and it now has a prominent spot in our home - above the built-in entertainment center in the living room.

Gorgeous right?  I think it used to be a backplate on a sideboard or something.  It had three small dowel connectors that we cut off the bottom.

It is just the perfect size and see how well it matches the fireplace mantel and mirror.

I just love my new/old addition.  Hubby thought that wall was just perfect the way it was, but he is learning that it can be even more perfect : )

Travels

I traveled to Oklahoma today to take Son #1 to a Baseball Showcase.  I did a little exploring in this tiny Oklahoma town and took these pictures.

That doesn't look like something you would find in a tiny Oklahoma town does it?  It was the coolest old bank building on the main street.

Our First Craft Show

Mom and I had our first of two craft shows yesterday.  We had never even attended this show before so we really didn't know what to expect.  There were about 115 vendors.  We were a little nervous about the unloading process since we only had about 2 hours to set up our 10x10 space and we had quite a bit of furniture.  We pulled in and found out our space was located in the Commons (this didn't mean much to us initially, but come to find out it's the best place to be).  We pulled right in and were able to back in the U-Haul truck.  About 5 student volunteers appeared to help us unload - sweet!  We got all set-up with a little time to spare.

We each sold our largest furniture item which was awesome!  We loaded up more at the end of the day than we had hoped, but all-in-all it was a successful show.  And we even got the U-Haul turned back in by the 7:00pm deadline.  Can I just tell you I was so thankful for the extra hour of sleep last night!

La Cuisine (The Kitchen)

My best friend of 28 years lives near Austin and she doesn't get to visit my home very often.  She has three small children and when we get together I want to see her and the kids so it's easier for me to go to them.  Since I sometimes constantly change things, she has a hard time keeping up.  So I took a few pictures of the kitchen tonight.

Gosh there sure are a lot of roosters in these pictures!  I have lots of space above my cabinets so I've gotten to have fun with some large-scale items.  We spend so much time in the kitchen - it's the Grand Central Station of our home!
