Mini Book-Page Wreath - Part Two

I had so much fun making the first mini book-page wreath that I decided to make another one tonight.  I had an older book with very aged pages.  Also, this book was smaller so I didn't have to cut the pages in half.  I changed up the center design but everything else was done the same.

I enjoy having projects like this for winter evenings.

SOLD - Antique Lineberry Furniture Cart

My original post on the antique Lineberry furniture carts can be found here.  You can also see the "before" picture in that post.  Mom did a great job refurbishing hers and one has found a new home already!  Here are some pictures of the one that sold:

The new owner will use it as a coffee table in a downtown loft apartment - so perfect!

Is this chair taken?

I had a set of 6 dining chairs to paint for a client - 4 side chairs and 2 arm chairs.  They started out dark brown stain and I primed & painted them this color:

I know what you're thinking - that's pretty bold & bright!  Take a look after my final step that was wiped on:

I especially love the arm chairs - just more detail to show off this gorgeous finish.  I think they will make some one's home very cheery!

And speaking of cheery, our 72-degree-sunny-day made me super happy!

Variation on the book-page wreath

I wanted to make sort of a mini book-page wreath.  I made this up as I went along and didn't think to take pictures because I didn't know how it would turn out.

I found a small circular styrofoam piece at Hobby Lobby.  It didn't have a hole in the center and I decided to work with it that way.  I cut my book pages in half to accommodate the smaller size.  I folded my pages accordion style.  I used scissors with a patterned edge to cut the edges prior to gluing with the hot glue gun.

I glued my pages down flat on the front side of the styrofoam - this left a small circle in the center that was uncovered.  I did one more row and folded a tab to glue along the edge.  I cut a small circle of cardboard and covered it with scrapbook paper to cover the center of the circle.  I then decided to add our initial using another scrapbook paper.  This would look great with a small chipboard letter covered in German glass glitter but I didn't have those supplies on hand.

I added some ribbon for hanging on the back using a couple of straight pins.  Here is the final product:

I like the way the edges look with the patterned scissor cut.  There are so many variations to try - you could add a little lace or fabric, maybe even a tiny bird's nest in the center?  I think I'll keep playing with this design.

So happy it's the weekend!

Treasures from Arkansas

A friend asked me what I brought home from Arkansas besides the antique furniture cart - she knows me too well!  Here are a few quick pics - no staging here.

This great antique tin piece - I sprayed with clear Rustoleum and added the pretty ribbon.

This antique Sparkletts of London seltzer bottle.  I'll be selling this gem.

Several additions to my ever-growing silver-plate collection.  Don't worry - I'm working on an appropriate display for this collection - I realize the floor in our guest bedroom is not too appealing.

I especially adore this addition - so petite:

And this one - yum:

We find some great stuff in Arkansas don't we?

Just a girl and her cart

So, I shared my refurbished furniture cart here.  And as you know a new piece of furniture means a new surface to decorate!  I found this great lantern at Hobby Lobby yesterday and it was 50% off.  I love having the large candle inside to light.

I hope it's sunny where you are - enjoy your Tuesday!

Do I have to sell it?

I painted this chair for a client this weekend:

It just happens to look fantastic in my kitchen!  I swear I didn't plan it, but boy is it going to be hard to deliver it to my client this week.  If you love it as much as I do, you can find it at When Pigs Fly in Denton's Golden Triangle Mall.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Furniture Cart - Part Two

I had a request to see the top of the furniture cart that I worked on yesterday.  I was so excited about showing off the hardware that I didn't think about the top of the cart.

I used Golden Pecan stain on the sides because I didn't want to cover the original stamped letters.  I used a darker, Provencial stain, on the top of the cart.

And yes, this cart is very similar to the one sold by Restoration Hardware:

Furniture Factory Cart

One difference is the wheels - my cart has the more desirable "flower petal" wheels.  Oh, and the Restoration Hardware cart is on sale for $795 + shipping!

Last question - yes it is VERY heavy.  The wheels and hardware are cast iron.  It rolls very well though. Thanks for the interest in my latest project!

A day for projects

I had the day off yesterday and that meant a day for projects!  I did some cleaning, some painting, some organizing, some decorating and tackled this beauty:

This before picture is actually one of mom's Lineberry Furniture Carts - I forgot to take a before of mine.  We got 4 of these amazing antiques over the weekend in Arkansas!  My cart had school bus yellow paint splattered all over it.  Thank goodness for power sanders!  Check out the after:

One of mom's will soon be for sale at the Grapevine Antique Mall - I'll keep you posted!

Home Tour for BFF Continued

Our home tour started in the kitchen in this post.  Moving on to the guest bathroom.  This bathroom is within the guest bedroom which is nice for friends that visit.

The design on the shower curtain is almost identical to the design on the large white towel.

Here is my collection of mercury glass.

Smocked bed linen from Laurie Anna's hanging above window.

The drawer/cabinet hardware was recently added.

Amazing Article

A fellow blogger posted a link for this article and I read it last night. It stuck with me today and I thought I should share it with others - it's an amazing story and a great reminder that GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.

More changes revealed

Do you ever have one of those aha moments in your home - where you notice something or have an idea and then you think "why didn't I think of that sooner"?  I had such a moment with our nightstands and dresser.  Notice how the drawers are different - the top drawer has reverse crown and is inset - the bottom drawer is raised panel.

I had the idea to add mirror to the inset drawers.

I got the mirror cut at a local glass shop and they drilled the holes for the hardware.  It's 1/8" mirror and I had to buy slightly longer screws for the hardware.  Total project cost was about $65.  I like how the mirror reflects the light and it's just enough of a change.

Changes in the Master Bedroom

Our furniture in the master bedroom is old and the typical matchy-matchy 5 piece set.  I've wanted to make changes for a while now but our existing furniture is good & solid.  Also, everything I like is pricey.  An example is the tufted headboard I've been eyeing for a couple of years now.  Ballard offers this one:
Camden Tufted Headboard

It would be about $610 with shipping.  Pottery Barn offers this one:
Raleigh Nailhead Camelback Bed, Full., Twill Parchment

Headboard only is $674 before tax.

Luckily, I learn about great deals from my wonderful blog friends.  I was reading one of the "best transformations of 2010" posts about a guest bedroom makeover and a tufted headboard was used that was purchased at Target.  Target - are you kidding me - who knew?!  I quickly went to the Target site and much to my surprise I found the headboard and it was $299 for a queen!

So, here is our bed before:

And here is the new headboard I ordered in parchment:

Seeing all of the fabric at the end of the bed feels so much softer.  It also feels roomier at the end of the bed - I feel like there is room for a little bench now - hmmm.

Stay tuned for a couple of other small reveals in the master bedroom.

A visit to McKinney and a discovery

Hope you all had a wonderful Saturday!  Son #2 had a basketball tournament today with very long breaks in between games.  I took advantage of being near McKinney and visited a few of my favorite shops.  On my way to the Square I noticed a bright colored sign that said ANTIQUE SALE.  I followed the signs and discovered the Old Red Lumberyard Antique & Vintage Sale (they have a Facebook page)!  How did I not know about this?  Several vendors gather here once a month.  It was awesome - just take a look at my great finds:

I also visited Theresa's space at Antique Co. Mall, Smitten and Patina Green.  McKinney has so much to offer!  I even took a few pictures of some charming homes near the Square.

In case you are in the area, the Old Red Lumberyard Antique & Vintage Sale is open tomorrow from 10:00-5:00.

Mark your calendars!

Perfect timing after my last post about Flea Market Style magazine.  Ki Nassauer, Editor-in-Chief of Flea Market Style magazine, will be making two appearances at Winnie & Tulula's in Athens during the month of April.

One appearance will be in conjunction with Canton First Monday so you can also visit Laurie Anna's.  I feel a road trip coming on!

Flea Market Style

I know I'm not the only one anxiously - ok really super impatiently - awaiting the new issue of Flea Market Style magazine!  It will be out in February!

And more great news - they have just announced there will be a Fall issue in 2011 as well!

Framed!

I just love frames and over the last several months I've gotten my hands on some great antique ones.

This one hangs in our master bath.

I hung this one in our guest bedroom around a little French mirror that was already hanging.  This great frame and the previous one were found by my brother at an estate sale in Arkansas.

I purchased this shabby white frame from an estate sale in Texas.  It's above a shelf in our laundry room.  This photo doesn't do the frame justice - it has great detail and it's old & chippy.

Here are a couple of frames that rest on top of a wall-mounted cubby that hangs in the upstairs hallway.

Do you find that old, empty frames are hard to resist?
